I am growing tomato plants from seed.?

I am growing beefsteak tomato plants from seed. They are begining to sprout. The question I have is how many plants should I put in a five gallon container.

I am growing tomato plants from seed.?
One is enough as the beefsteak plant is quite large.
Reply:Five gallons is a little small for a beefsteak tomato plant, so if you can manage to put it in the ground instead or in a larger container, please do so. Beefsteak tomatoes can grow to 6ft tall or higher. But, if a five gallon container is the best you can do, pay extra attention to fertilizing and watering the plant. Tomatoes need a lot of water, and five gallon containers dry out very quickly, so you will need to water the soil every day. Don't get the leaves wet-that can encourage disease. Also, choose a fertilizer blend made for tomatoes, the first number (nitrogen) should be lower than the other two numbers. Well, good luck-nothing is like a homegrown tomato!
Reply:Like every body says one .Try cutting a 2" hole in the bottom of the bucket and plant the tomato under the bucket and hang it . You won't have to tie it and will grow like a hanging plant . Water it from the top . It will grow much larger and better .
Reply:Beefsteak wont do well in a 5 gallon container but you can try I guess. Only one plant per container. They get big!
Reply:Only one. They grow tall and bushy. You will have lots of tomatoes on just one plant.
Reply:just one should be fine. any more and the plants will get crowded and not do as well.
Reply:One or two and probably you'll have to remove one of them.
