What is wrong with my tomato plants. They are not producing.?

I bought tomato plants from Walmart that were about a foot high. I planted them in the garden and they are growing really high (about 5 foot) but they have not produced tomatoes yet. It did flower once but it fell off and there hasn't been any flowers since. I give it miracle grow once a week. They look healthy. Thanks for your answers. I live in S. Florida so this is the time to plant, I think. Weather is hot and I am watering them daily also.

Are you using the Miracle-Grow Water Soluble Tomato Plant Food formulation (18-18-21) or the normal one? The normal one (12-4-8) has a lot of nitrogen which makes for lots of nice foliage (leaves), but not the ideal combo of potassium and phosphorus for improved fruiting.





Use the Tomato Plant Food formulation every 7-14 days and they should start fruiting out soon enough.





Could be a fungus or pest problem. It's recommended not to plant in the same spot every year for this purpose.

if you aren't they'll produce a lot of foliage but no flowers/fruit.





you pinch out the growth between the main stem and the large side leaves.

Reply:My father in law says to take a switch to them......And hit them....Don't tare them up though..................And sometimes you get tomatoes that are all Foliage...Good Luck
Reply:Do they get enough sun? The more the better. And yes you can return them to the store if they have a desease (well, depends on when you bought them).
Reply:I also live in S. Florida on the Gulf Coast. The worst little bugger that can attack your tomato's is nematodes. They must be exterminated and the ground purified before the plants go into the garden. You plants suffered blossom drop and any tomato grower worth his time and effort knows why.





Before planting, about 2-3 weeks take black plastic known as black plastic mulch and cover the area you want to garden. The ground will bake to a high temperature and sterilize the soil underneath thereby killing the nematodes and other harmful bacteria growing there. Till or turn the soil with good organic compost you can either make yourself or buy at a garden store. (Inexpensive.) Let the tilled earth lay for about a week to rest and then plant you produce. You will have to begin an aggressive spraying campaign for other bugs and critters as well. Fertilize according to the instructions and Miracle Gro is a good fertilizer.





Buying your produce stock or starting from seedlings makes no difference. The point is you are trying.
