Any home remedies on how to stop squirrels from eating me tomatoes plants?
Great question !!! We have tons of squirrels and rabbits, and occasionally deer in our backyard. We have a large 24' x 16' raised garden with 5 varietals of tomato plants, zucchini, etc in our garden. We have had ZERO crop damage . . . while our neighbors constantly complains about damage to their garden. Well . . . we have a bird feeder in our backyard and the squirrels constantly pillage the bird food . . . so I started putting a pill of bird food on the ground in the yard and they started eating that instead of getting on the bird feeder. It's just my personal theory . . . but I think they don't mess with the garden because they have another food source. If you don't feel right about shooting them . . . and you still enjoy seeing them around the yard like we do . . . give them an alternate food source so they stay out of your garden. Just my personal theory though. Happy gardening.
Reply:the best thing to do is to create a fence around your tomatoes including a top. The best and most cost effective material to use would be chicken wire. Make the top hinged so you can reach in to get tomato's or if you have several plants make a gate in your fence, but also make a hinged top so that your plants will be easily accessible.

i hope this helps
Reply:try soap shavings spread around plants.
Reply:Wish I had the answer to that. Squirrels have been eating ours all summer long.
Reply:Napalm
Reply:Buy a pellet gun, sit on your porch, and when the little critter comes to get his dinner, shoot him. Kill enough squirrels and the word will get around that your yard is a death trap. But then again squirrels are too stupid to realize that. You'll have enough dead squirrels to have stew every night and be able to make a fur coat in about a month.
Reply:We`ve used cayanne pepper on our plants because of beetle problems. It should work with squirrels too.One bite of a leaf with that sprinkled on it should send them running.
Reply:Hey girl, ummmmm I don't know cause squirrels are so greedy. They eat like anything. Is there anyway you can make a fence around your tomatoes plants? That is the only thing I can really think of. Sorry I couldn't assist you more.
Reply:This is going to sound silly but put some ears of corn on the opposite side of the yard!
