What size pot do I need for a *patio* roma tomato plant ?

Bought a small roma tomato plant , it came in a 12 ounce plastic cup (i felt sorry for it) Its already got roots growing out the bottom. though it doesnt look rootbound yet, and is about as tall as the cup is. Do I need to follow the rule of thumb for houseplants and keep repotting it in one size up pots until its mature or can I go ahead and plant it in a couple gallon container close to the top and let it go from there. Its going to be a patio plant and will never be put in the ground. Thanks for you help in advance !

No, you don't have to keep potting it up. Just put it in the largest container you have....or get a new one. No smaller than 18 inch. Fertilize it once a week. Yummmy.
Reply:I went ahead and planted my roma tomato patio plant in a five gallon container (probably overkill) but also planted basil and other herbs at the base and wanted them to have room to spread. Tomato plants in my experience do not like to be transplanted, well, mine died off when I did it. So now I give them room to grow and don't disturb them with a new home.
Reply:Tomato's have a hardy root ball when establishes, I would use an 18" pot
