Can I grow a tomato plant in a pot?

I planted some seeds that I got from a tomato and there is about 10 seedling with 2 leaves and i wanna know if I can grow it in a Plant pot which i have brought and the plant pot is 25cm. I live in a rented house and I might be moving and i dont wanna plant it in the garden and leave it for som1 else.

Yes, you definitely can grow tomatoes in a pot. If I did my math right, your 25 cm pot is about 10 inches, and that is ample for a tomato plant. I grew tomato plants on a balcony many years ago in Dallas, Texas; I had 10 plants each in its own 10-inch pot, and ended up with more tomatoes than I knew what to do with!





I *would* suggest in the future that you get seeds from a seed producer, rather than from tomatoes. The seeds that are in a tomato are not going to breed true (the reason is genetic, and a bit complicated to post here); if you get seeds from a known variety, you'll have a stronger and healthier plant, and generally a much better yield.

Reply:Absolutely, my friend is doing it this year and her tomato plants are big and healthy. The tomatos just started turning color from green.
Reply:yes, the plant will only get as large as the pot allows it to though.
Reply:Yes. Just remember that the bigger the pot, the bigger the plant.
Reply:Growing tomatoes in pots do very well. The smaller variety do well in smaller pots. You need a larger pot for the bigger variety. Make sure they have a drainage hole and water every day, in a pot they dry out faster.
Reply:You can start it this way, but you will have to put it into a larger pot later. (eventually you will need it in a max. of 5 gallon pot.)
Reply:Sure, just keep it in a sunny area, keep it watered and you will get ripe juicy tomatoes! You can even add fertilizer to make them a little plumper and juicier! And if you move, your garden can go right along with you! Enjoy!
Reply:Yes you can. Water it but dont over water as this is the leading cause of death for house plants. The amount of fruit depends on how healthy you can grow the plant.

Reply:Yes, but there are 2 types of tomato growth. Determinant plants get a certain hight and stop growing. These are better for potting. Indeterminant plants just keep getting longer, and longer until killed by frost or disease. These are not well suited for growing in pots, for obvious reasons.





They sell special pots for tomatoes that hang from ceiling, with the plant growing out the bottom. These work well.
