Is it true that the leaves on tomato plants do not like to come in contact with water?

Some folks claim this that water splashed on the leaves can spread early blight, however since early blight can be soil, seed or air born it doesn't make any difference

Is it true that the leaves on tomato plants do not like to come in contact with water?
I know this is true of African Violets, but havent heard this about tomato plants.
Reply:I am in the middle of tomato country, the fields get the same amount of rain as any other crops, and the leaves do get wet. So I would have to say, no it does not hurt the leaves. However I have heard that one should not water the plants in the bright sunlight, wait till evening when the sun is not its brightest.
Reply:I have never experienced that and I grow Tomatoes every year. It's very hot where I am so if the plants had a problem with the water on the leaves, the water would have dried pretty fast in my area.
