Keep them inside until they have a very sturdy stem, or about 7 inches big. When this happens, go ahead and plant them in to a garden with well draining soil. You may want to get a tomatoe cage, because this will help support them in the long run. If you get a red container thing that looks like a carton, thats ok too, becaue red is supposedly supposed to make the plants to have more tomatoes, and the cartons prevent root rot and over watering. But tomato cages give the plants a little more support, which I like. If there are dear in your area, get some Liquid fence, or something similar, becaue even though it may seem that the tomato leaves are unappitizing, deer LOVE them, and trust me, they have absoulutley no trouble getting their necks down a tomato cage. Also, you may want to use an insectiside to make sure no mites or aphids come along. If you're an orgainic gardener, ladybugs will take care of these pests without hurting your plants, but make sure there are A LOT of aphids and mites before you do this, or the ladybugs will fly off to finds food if it runs out.Oh yeah, and if you don't like the smell of liquid fence (Rotten eggs, YUCK), consider just putting some fencing around the plants, but make it at least 6ft high, deer can REALLY jump. Harvest your tomatoes after they turn red. This will very, depending on what variety you have. Happy planting!
