The leave on my tomato plants are turning yellow. Anyone know why?

You don't give too many particulars so it is hard to tell you what's going on.

Assuming you've grown tom plants before and they were a healthy green just a few days ago, your plants should be about 12-18 in. tall right now.

IF (I'll repeat this,..... IF) that is the case then you are fine.I've grown tom plants for yrs , and they are perfect UNTIL they get about this tall, then it seems like the plant is gonna die.(Ie: it gets pale green, and the bottom turns yellow.)

I'm saying this because its hard to really kill a young tom plant;you have to be doing something crazy like over fertilizing or floating so much water by it that it needs a lifeboat.

Young tom plants need 1 thing at this stage: nitrogen. In fact they are nitrogen HOGS! If you think about it, they are doing 2 things at the same time. They are establishing a root system to draw nutrient up into the plant/vine, AND they are growing leaf for photosynthesis.

This used to drive me crazy because I took such care for the plant , then it goes yellow on the bottom. If your plants are tall enough, you can prune the bottom yellow leaves as they most likely will fall off anyway as the plant grows.

If your plants are full grown or they are seedlings , then you may have a fungus problem from too much watering , or from fertilizer.

Too much watering, this happens to any houseplant. (or, its a Chinese tomato plant... ohhhhh, that's just wrong of me.)
Reply:Sometimes it is over water.

Sometimes it is too much feed.

Once a week three inches of water is good.

But for food, if you feed too much, then the roots start to burn and then they cannot take up water or nutrition so the whole plant soon fails.

Tell us again with some details, Are the plants in the ground or pots,

How often do you water and feed?

Are the plants indoor or out?

If they are out, then how much rain/sun have you had.

Really it all makes a great difference.

Sorry I don't mean to sound so picky, you tell us we will help you!
Reply:Usually it's because they are lacking nutrients, try feeding with an organic liquid fish emulsion, this will pick them right up and make them green.
Reply:There is a deficiency in your growng tomato plants and it is lacking of magnesium. Check this site about plants nutrients deficiency and remedy.
Reply:overwatered
Reply:is is probably because u r feeding it too much fertilizer,or u r watering it at the wrong time u r normally supposed to water them early in the morning, and fertilize them when the dirt gets dried out of nutrition.u might have bug problems too. or u over watered it.
Reply:Leaves tend to turn yellow sometimes when you overwater
Reply:Yellow usually means too much water - hard to tell without knowing what part of the country you are in.
