What can you use for your tomato plants for bugs besides the spray that you buy at the store?

A strong infusion of garlic and chilli, mixed with a little liquid soap to help it stick to the bugs and the leaves.

You can also plant marigolds, yarrow, basil, garlic and parsley around the plants to repel insects and improve the flavour of your toms!

I don't really know.

In any event I'll suggest garlic and salt lol
Reply:Sevin dust. It's an insecticide that is especially effective on tomato worms. You sprinkle it all over the plant in a fine dust. For flying insects, you can use a spray of dishwashing liquid and water.
Reply:pesticides are the best way to get rid of bugs, organic ways are usualy not as effiective...but their are dry pesticides you can get, they are not sprays.,
Reply:Plant marigolds nearby. Several bug species don't like the smell of marigolds.

Plant flowers and herbs that will attract predatory insects. There's a small wasp (can't recall the name) that will lay it's eggs ON tomato worms, thus killing them slowly. I saw a few in my garden. They seemed to be attracted to the dill and the basil.
Reply:Depends on what kind of bugs. To be honest, the ONLY bugs that have ever significantly damaged a tomato plant in my yard are tomato hornworms, and I deal with them by keeping my eye out for them and manually removing them. I also have some very helpful wasps that kill them for me.

I have never needed to spray or dust my tomatoes for bugs.
Reply:What kind of bugs are the problem? Most bugs on tomato plants don't do much damage.

Tomato hornworms will take some nice bites out of your tomatoes. The best thing to do with them, is pick them off and crush them.

Cotesia congregatus is one of the parasitic wasps that will parasitise the hornworm larva. If you find a hornworm with lots of white egg growths on its back, don't crush it! Those little wasps (they are very very small) will hatch out pretty soon, and they'll help take care of your hornworm problem!

I'm not sure about Cotesia congregatus- but you can buy some parasitic wasps for your home garden. This wasp is fairly widespread though so I'm not sure if you can get them...
Reply:A weekly spray of any neem based repellant pesticide is environment friendly and effective. Neem based formulations like nimbin, nimbicidine, Azadirachtin etc are active ingedients in it. No harm to us but repels insects and harmful to insect eggs.
