I have had better luck growing tomato's in morning sun/afternoon shade. Also by mixing the dirt used from the ground with some professional soil mix, that is only about$3.00 a bag from a dollar store.

Professional soil is more of a light waite mix. It has plant food and helps contain water.

Here is a web site that may help you.

The water will depend on your growing zone and weather conditions. Irregular watering patterns are what make your tomato's split. I have had to battle the habit of over watering.

I found if I can resist the temptation to over water, the roots don't rot out, making for a stronger plant.
Reply:A heirloom tomato is just a type of tomato that has been around for many years. They definitely need lots of sun and outdoors. Water every few days, keep evenly moist. The plant will get up to 4' tall . It will probably need to be tied up so as not to have the fruit on the ground. Really, tomatoes are easy to grow.
Reply:Tomato's are tropical plants. Frost will kill it. Indoors will cause it to die. It belongs outside after last frost in full sun. Keep soil moist. Height depends on variety.
