What is the tastiest tomato plant I can grow in a pot?

I have a very productive "patio tomato plant" but the tomatoes

arent much better tasting than store bought. besides cherry tomatoes. what tomato plant produces big red tomatos with that awsome homegrown fresh taste, that I can grow in a pot?

Those hybrids aren't tasty. Try a "Tiny Tim" heirloom tomato. They do awesome in pots. Unless you aren't turned on by their small size...

You can grow a tomato plant in a pot very well, if you use a 2 gal pot, give it bone meal and fish emulsion, trim off the suckers and leaved that do not hold buds on, and lots of sun.

Potasium and bone meal will keep the plant's roots very strong, and the plant shorter altogether. Easy on the nitrogen!
Reply:Tammy, this is what I do. Go to the farmers market and find you a big red tasty tomato. Go home and prepare a pot of soil, I like Miracle Grow. Cut tomato into and squeeze the seeds onto the soil. Put in a dry location out of the rain for about two weeks. Hit with fertilizer. You will have about 35-40, maybe more, tomato plants from one single tomato. Leave them all in one pot until strong enough to transplant. I plant them in threes, three to a pot. My tomatoes are over 8 foot high and loaded with delicious tomatoes:-)
Reply:I have found, through much trial and error, that Creole tomatoes tend to have a very rich flavor. They have always done well in pots, and produce a large fruit.
Reply:Belgium Giants - They are an heirloom tomatoe, very mild sweet, and no acid, so they are easy to digest!

I have raised them from seed myself!
Reply:You can grow any tomato in a container. We have a bunch growing in containers including a Topsy Turvy planter.

Tasty is a subjective term, some like their tomatoes sweet like the cherry tomatoes and some like them more acidic. Some people even like them green and fried, but I've never been able to develop a taste for them that way.

There are a lot of heirloom varieties that you can grow from seeds and they are becoming more popular at local garden centers.
