I just planted for the first time in my life some tomato plants and need to know how to care for them.?

They like the sun, water regularly, but don't over water.

We use Miracle Gro, tomato food, and we also plant marigolds around them, because the bugs that like tomato plants do not like the smell of marigolds.

good luck.

Tomato's require a lot of warmth when they are young use a cone or a old tire or something to keep them warm. Then use a tomato rack the are a vine and need to be able to climb. Use good fertilizer such as miracle grow or something that says its for tomatoes
Reply:All veggie plants need lots of water and a whole lot of sun. Tomato plants will need to be staked when they get taller. The weight of the tomatoes will pull it over. As far as fertilizer goes, I use Miracle grow at twice the recommended concentration with every watering for all of my plants, but I grow my veggies indoors. Outdoors, you might not want the extra effort of fertilizing every time, but that's entirely up to you.
Reply:You should use cages or put stakes in soil while plants are small (easier that way). Water regularly through the summer. Two rules to keep in mind. If you want really big tomatoes - prune (pinch off) all suckers. If you don't care about size but want a larger harvest allow most sucker to grow to get bigger plant. I do a couple of each.
Reply:Make sure that there is plenty of room between the plants..they can get to be quite a size...When they reach to a certain height, like say maybe 18 inches give them a wire stand or something that they can climb on...this prevents them sprawling all over the garden and the fruit from rotting early from sitting in the mud after a rain.

Make sure that they get plenty of sun and water them regularly..Manure could help them as well...mmm I can taste them already...lol
Reply:Just keep the weeds off of them, water them reguraly but do not over water them. They will do the rest.

You can also give them plant food to make them healthier.
Reply:Easy. Just water them regularly, daily in the summertime (they are water hogs--though too much water will split the fruit). Fertilize with a weak Miracle-Gro solution once a week. When you see the little "suckers" between the main leaves and the stem (they look like little shoots) pull or pinch them off. You don't want lots of leggy vines, you want a stout main vine, staked up with loose-fitting ties (so they don't cut off the water supply), and lots of big, main leaves.
