Why is my tomato plant not producing any tomatoes?

I have 3 beefstock tomato plants and theyve each grown a little over 40 inches. They grow in my apt window out on the balcony. They get plenty of sunlight and I water them every day, sometimes twice a day. They have miracle grow soil and Ive even tried miracle grow plant growth (the blue stuff, mixed with water).

They havent produced any flowers indicating tomatoes. All they do is grow taller and taller. They are each very green and healthy. Did I do something wrong?

Why is my tomato plant not producing any tomatoes?
Trim those little leafy buds at the Y sections of the stalks. That way the energy of the plant will be focused on the Tomatoes and not on the growth of new leaves.
Reply:Just wait, and I'm sure they'll give flowers. You're taking great care of them! :)
Reply:Find the V of main stalks and pinch out the suckers growing in all the V's. These suckers take away some of the strength from the main plant. Also, tomatoes like it rough. I used to always go out and shake them good and hard. Experts will tell you to actually BEAT them with a broom. It makes them hardy. I got a little carried away when I tried that and I broke off one of the limbs. So now I just shake the fire out of them. Good Luck.
Reply:Okay, as I am an avid vegetable garden person%26gt;%26gt;will leave link here to my flickr photos..I have pictures there of mine..but what is happening is too much miracle grow, regular miracle grow has alot of nitrogen, which is good for the greenery, the leaves foilage etc...when you see the tomatoes first start getting little bud sacks on them... switch to a high potasium enriched fertilizer and less nitrogen one..You are feeding the leaves right now get one that works on the fruit at this stage..I see alot of people do this not knowing and all they get is greenage..it is great stuff..but use it the time it is needed..page one shows my patio tomatoes.and page 11 shows my better boys in the background...nice scenery pictures here too:) Also I would like to add, it don't seem in the location they are in that they can receive pollination from bees etc...You can self pollinate these yourself simply by a couple times a day go out and shake each tomato plant 5 or 6 times, but gently, and this will pollinate them...without pollination..no fruit
Reply:its because there are no bees to pollinate the flowers. i have the same problem with a pepper plant right next to me in the window sill. we are just going to have to put them outside to produce fruits.
Reply:Don't fertilize for a week or two. Let them completely dry out and start to subtly wilt before watering. Tomato plants really do require 8 hrs of sun a day for the tomatoes to ripen so I hope that is what they are getting.

I do believe you have just given them too much of a good thing and if you do as I suggested you should see flowers in about 2 weeks.

Good luck..........
Reply:That's not a tomato plant - that's pot!
Reply:Tomatos need a fertilizer with a high middle number in order to flower.

In fertilizers, the first number makes the plants grow, the second makes the flowers grow and the third makes the roots grow.
Reply:I have 3 in 15-gallon pots outside and they only get partial sun during the day. It took them an additional couple of weeks before the fruits started to show so since you're taking great care of them, give 'em time. Your Beefsteaks may need a little more height to 'em before the fruits start coming. The other suggestions about being put outside might help. Once they start, be ready! Good luck!
Reply:You may be using the wrong fertilizer. Fertilizers have three numbers, tomato fertilizer should have larger second and third numbers, smaller first numbers.

If the Miracle Grow you have been using has a large first number, it is high in nitrogen. Nitrogen stimulates stem and leaf growth at the expense of flower production. Stop fertilizing for a while. If you use fertilizer, buy tomato food or vegetable/flower food.
Reply:maybe because you dont no how to grow them?
Reply:you have to make sure that you gjot the right kind of plant and mistaked it for tomatos but so far you are taking good care of your plant
Reply:There could be several reasons that your tomato plants are not flowering.

Too much water, plants in pots don't need water until the soil is dry to the touch to avoid over watering. You may be giving you plants too much water which is the most common mistake for gardeners.

Most likely the reason for your tomato plants not flowering is there is not enough phosphorous, phosphorous is a nutrient that is essential for flowering and fruiting. Chances are, you have too much nitrogen in the soil which cause the vines to run and leaf but no flowers or fruits.
