I am growing cherry tomato plants from seed, how can I make sure they taste great?

Claire, growing tomatoes is rather easy, and there are only a few easy steps to follow. Firstly try and have the toms in a warm south-facing position.

Use a tomato grow bag, these are better than the ordinary plant grow bags. Make sure you water the plant religiously every day as they tend to dry very fast and toms need plenty of water. get some tomato plant food, this IS essential for a good fruit as it contains ingredients which the plant loves.

Try not to use insecticides, but if you have to use in small amounts. If you see a leaf from the plant touching one of the growing tomatoes, prune that leaf because it will leave a mark on the tomato's skin.

Don't pick them until they are ready, they may taste a bit funny. Good luck

I too grow tomatoes from seed, i find that all i do is just make sure they are watered, and not to use pestacides on them, mine have always been very tasty to eat.
Reply:Water them regularly, keep them in a sunny spot and remember to keep picking off the suckers that grow between the stalk and main stem, they bleed the plant of energy that should go into making juicy tomatoes for you.

If you have a tomato feed use this as I find it really helps.

We grow red and yellow tomatoes here on our balcony and find them easy, plus the kids love to help!!
Reply:Taste can be influence by a few factors. One of them is the variety you are growing (read the label to see if they have any comments on taste). The next one is the soil and nutrient available. A tomato that grows in a poor, dry soil soil will loose water and taste. Keep your plant and soil humid (not excessive) and add fertilizers 3 or 4 times in the year. This should generate good results. If possible, use compost not peat moss for your soil.

Reply:Pick them on a bright sunny day with a bit of French dressing as you sit in your garden and just watch them disappear

Reply:Make sure that they stay watered, and in the sunshine
Reply:water regularly and use tomato feed once a week. remove offshoots so tomatoes get all the goodness. pick them often or the plant will go to seed too soon. homegrown fruit and veg always taste better than commercial stuff. i recommend radishes too.
Reply:lots of sun shine that is key for sweet tomatoes do not for get to water them as well
