Straw is a good mulch. It will also help keep moisture in the soil..
Reply:MULCH EM IN WITH STRAW HE'S GOT SOME FARMIN IN THERE JUST DON'T LET IT GET TOO SOGGY PROVIDES MOISTURE ON THE HOT DAYS AHEAD
Reply:i don't know
Reply:why did he do that?
Reply:the straw will help protect them from frost damage.. they should be fine..
Reply:mulch is good

just don't use sugar cane mulch if you have a dog, some of them have allergies
Reply:RELAX NO HARM ITS GOOD FOR THEM HELPS CONTROL THE WEED POPULATION AND ADDS MOISTURE TO THE PLANT. SO HE IS DOING THE BEST THING THIS IS AN OLD FARMERS TRICK TO KEEP THE BUGS AWAY ALSO...SMART HUBBY
Reply:i don't think it will harm them i think it will help with moisture
Reply:he did this to help retain the moisture. otherwise you'll be watering them every day. it's common for most plants and trees. he's no idiot.
Reply:this will harm them !!!! get rid of your husband ! he only wants to make you incompetent and a failure !

long live tomato !
Reply:Straw is good during the cold season to keep down frost, but should be removed when warmer weather comes. The straw will mold on the underside, so turn it often, but again remove it when warm weather comes, bugs love straw and if you want good mold free, bug free tomatos dump the straw, next year, if going to use much should be from a hard wood like oak, saw dust from hard wood is good in small amounts, straw is not the best thing of choice. I'm a old fart that has had many gardens and love tomatos
