Will bark mulch around tomato plants hurt them?

No bark mulch is not recommended for tomato plants because as the bark breaks down it steels energy and nutrients from the soil. Try using sterile compost purchased from you garden center no weed seeds in there.

Will bark mulch around tomato plants hurt them?
it's great! it reduces the need for watering and weeding. mulch your entire garden. it does attract bugs, but the good kinds that are healthy for a garden.
Reply:hurt them it will kill them slowly because it attracks bugs like roaches and they will eat them badly. but it also depends where you live. i lived in jersey all my life and never had to worry i had them just in the ground i mean a huge 2 acre garden but i mived to fl and had a small garden and it didnt do too good too many bugs so this season i built boxes about a foot and a half above the ground and filled with top soil and there doing great. alot easier to control weeds and such..... hope this helps
Reply:Put the bark three inches away from the stem and use cedar bark mulch to keep away insects.
