I just set out some tomato plants that I bought at a garden center. Why are lower leaves are turning yellow?

Sometimes they go into a little bit of shock at finding themselves in a new place. The lower leaves on mine never do much once the plant starts growing, and they eventually turn yellow and dry, but by then the tops is blasting skywards. Last year my plants got to eight feet tall. Just remember tomato plants like a lot of sun and water.

They need sun light, you can just pull off the lower yellow leaves if you want to. They will probably dry up anyway.
Reply:Normal. Lower leaves are just the mechanism for growing the plant to the point that it produces adult branches, and leaves(that is not the scientific term for them).

Even the bottom sproutings eventually fail, as the plant produces mature stems and leaves.

If your entire tomato plant were to turn yellow, and wilt, I would be concerned. However, this is normal, at least by what you have described.

Good luck.
Reply:Dont worry about it, pull them off.
