When do i put cages around my tomato plants?
i do mine when they are about a foot high...
Reply:I would do it when you plant the tomato. I use steel posts and tie the tomato to it as it grows but I use the cages on my pepper plants to keep the limbs from breaking from the weight of the peppers. I found that if I put the cage on them when I plant that the birds don't pick the tops out of them. Otherwise I lose several to the blackbirds.
Reply:when you plant them
Reply:Before they get too big. Just do it right after you plant them.
Reply:When the stems are growing outward. If they are growing straight, there is no need.
Reply:when you plant them.My cages are permanent. Google Japanese ring.
Reply:I just stick them on when I set out the young plants. That way I don't risk breaking the plants as they get bigger.
