My tomato plants have become enormous but 50% of leaves have no buds. Should I trim it?

Don't trim it. That will throw the plant into shock. It will then produce twice as many leaves.

Give the plant a little time to relax from growing so quickly. Be sure to evenly water it. Meaning, if you water daily use the same amount of water, if it's everyother day, again, the same amount of water. This will stimulate a stable water table and it will give you tomatoes. Also, guard against over watering. This will cause your tomatoes to grow to quickly and split open.

Good luck.

You may have over fertilized the plants. When plants get to much nitrogen which helps produce healthy green growth. Then the plants will fail to set much fruit. Pruning lightly would be OK.
