i can't believe so many people use stakes! use CAGES, trust me.. once those things start taking off there's not a stake in the world that will keep up on a windy day! personal experience! stakes might work, but u always have to check em throughout the season and readjust here and there...... just use cages! please, u'll thank me later!
Reply:cage them now, before they get too big to cage, they will fill them up soon I'm sure.
Reply:I always stake mine when they start getting up there in height just to save room.
Reply:cage
Reply:I usually put a stake in the ground when I plant them. As the vine grows I tie it loosely to the stake around the main stem. I then place a cage around them before they are to large and position the branches in the cage to promote upward growth. Concrete wire fencing makes excellent cages and I've had tomatoes reach 7 feet tall. If your plants aren't too tall I would do both.
