Why do fruit flies just happen to appear when fruit spoils, and tomatoe worms when you have tomato plants?

They are attracted to it. The plants emit a chemical which causes a sense of attraction to it which the big picks up with sensors and decides to eat it.

Nobody really adressed the question. Tomato worms are pretty wild looking yet you never see one walking down the street looking for a tomato plant. Buy a tomato plant and (magic) tomato worms. Report Abuse

Reply:I think all bugs (and birds, and animals) are attracted to anything decaying (decaying to them means supper), and when fruit spoils it has a fragrance that attracts the bugs. Bugs outdoors were made to eat anything, so with regard to your tomatoes, when you don't want them to eat what you plan to eat then you deter the bugs with an insecticide or detergent or something they don't like that is pungent smelling (even tobacco, lemon, or melaleuka chips deter some bugs and animals).
Reply:because flies are retarted, they dont know what they're doing so give them a break
