My tomato plants seem to be infected with blight, is there anything I do short of ripping them up?

You have a fungus in the soil. You can get a fungicide for it. How ever it might not help much this season. Make sure you use it next year.

call the local farm bureau (agricultural office). Its in the government pages or search online. They can tell you all about evrything and what to do.
Reply:umm.. try moving it to a different spot in the garden
Reply:mine had a root fungus......... thought they were going to die...... trimmed the dead and gave them some fertilizer and they are still growing
